Pride Admit Weekend FAQ
- Do my parents have to know?
- Your parents will be required to sign off on paperwork if you are under 18. Though these forms are required to list the event as Pride Admit Weekend, PAW can also be advertised as an event to build generic "Bruin pride." Additionally, we are able to send you an alternative program for PAW that does not mention anything LGBTQ+ related that you may show your parents. In the event of an emergency, however, we will have to contact your parents/guardian as stated in your emergency contact form. As the Pride Admit Weekend team, we promise to protect your privacy. Your personal safety and well-being is our first priority!
- If I'm closeted, can I still go?
- Yes, you are still welcome at PAW if you are in the closet. Our Pride Admit Weekend team has taken great care to ensure participants' privacy is protected; many of our team members identify along the LGBTQ+ spectrum, so we definitely understand the coming out process and its intricacies. Please let us know how best to respect your privacy as we communicate with you about the program.
- I'm concerned that I will be outed if I attend this program.
- Our PAW team strives to protect your privacy as best we can! The event schedule will not be released to your parents/guardians (unless you yourself show it to them). In addition, we are conscious of our use of social media and will always get your approval before releasing your image or personal information.
- Is there anything I have to pay for?
- This program is completely free. If you need help getting internet, please check out these free resources at Spectrum (60 days) and Comcast (two months).
- Sorry, who are you?
- We are Pride Admit Weekend! In partnership with Queer Alliance, we provide LGBTQ+ admits with a sense of community here at UCLA. You can read more about us above or on our mission page.
- What if I'm not sure that I'll go to UCLA?
- That's fine! We invite admits who are still unsure about their college decision to participate in PAW-- our program may even help you make up your mind!
- I'm an admitted student and I got invited to attend TPAW and another program (SEATED, PREP, ASU, AISA, PISA, SWE, Latinx Weekend), can I attend both programs?
- If you are invited to attend another program, we encourage you to take advantage of both programs! Many yield programs will also conduct virtual events at the same time as PAW. It is up to you to balance your time and decide which events to attend, although there are some events at PAW that we strongly advise you to participate in! Please email us at uclaprideadmit@gmail.com if you are interested in more information about attending these programs at the same time as PAW.
